Q: Who can become a member of the Rye YMCA

A: The Rye YMCA is a membership organization open to all people in all neighborhoods.  Our primary service area includes but is not limited to Rye, Mamaroneck, Larchmont and Harrison areas.

We welcome all people regardless of race, age, ability, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or financial circumstance. Financial assistance is available to ensure that our Y is accessible to all members.

Q: How can I find out about becoming a member?

A: The best way to learn about the Rye YMCA is to come in, meet us, and tour our facility. Tours are given anytime our membership desk is open. In addition to showing you our facility, we’ll spend some time getting to know you better. We’ll find out more about your health and wellness needs and personal goals to be sure that you’ll get the most out of your membership.

Q: Is the YMCA a charitable organization?

A: Yes, we are a not-for-profit organization, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c) charitable organization. All donations made to the Rye YMCA are tax deductible and allow us to keep our powerful promise to our community: no one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay.

Q.  What does the Y stand for?

A: We are focused on three key areas: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We believe that nurturing the potential of our youth, helping people live healthier lives and supporting our neighbors in need are fundamental to strengthening the communities we serve.

Q: What are the Y’s hours of operation?

A: 21 Locust:
Monday – Friday: 5:30 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday: 8:00am-6:00pm. 

Y Studios: 
Monday-Thursday: 5:30am-8:00pm
Friday: 5:30am-6:00pm
Saturday: 7:00am-noon
Sunday: 8:00am-noon

Q: How do I join?

A: If you decide to become a member, you may join online or stop by Member Services. After joining we'll take your photo and create your membership card.

Q: Can I park at the Y?

A: Yes, we offer free parking in our parking lots at both 21 Locust and 1037 Boston Post Road.  During peak hours we offer free assisted/valet parking at 21 Locust.  Parking in our lots is only for members who are using the facility.   

During peak hours, our lot can become congested or full and we recommend that you park in a nearby municipal lot.  

Q: Are wellness classes included in the membership?

A: Yes. many classes are available for adults, free-of-charge, with a membership.  Classes include Group Exercise, Spinning, Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, Water Fitness and adult karate classes. Our Group Exercise classes are located in the new, state-of-the-art Y Studios at 1037 Boston Post Road – a short walk from the Rye Y.  

Q: Do I need to be a member to participate in programs at the Rye YMCA?

A: Non-Members may participate in most of our registered programs.  Use of our wellness facilities, including the Wellness Center, pools, Freestyle Fitness Zone, racquetball court,  group ex and spinning classes are for our members only.  Please review our current brochure for specific, up-to-date listings of non-member classes. Fees for all programs and classes are reduced for our members. We also offer several classes for seniors, free and open to the community.

Q: How do I register for programs?

A: You can register for programs at our membership desk or online. Most programs at the Rye Y are scheduled for 4 sessions through the year – Fall/Winter I & II and Winter/Spring III & IV.  Summer camp is our main program during the summer, but we also offer a selection of summer classes for adults and children. You do not need to register for our large selection of free adult group exercise  and spinning classes.

Members always receive priority registration. Our Rollover system allows family members who are currently enrolled in a class to continue the class for the next session at the same day and time. (Not available for Fall  I registration)   We recommend setting up an account online in advance of your first registration. Click here to register for our online registration system.  Also, note that many classes have limited enrollment, and all registrations are taken on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: Do my membership fees go to help others in need?

A: No. Your membership fee helps us cover our facility operating costs, but do not go towards assisting those in financial need. Donations to our annual giving campaign help fund memberships, programs and services for those members who are experiencing financial hardship and qualify for assistance. The Rye Y has made a powerful promise to our community: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay.

Q: How much does it cost to become a member?

A: Our membership fees vary depending on your category of membership. There is a one-time joining fee and monthly membership fees. Our bank draft payment method allows you to terminate your membership anytime with 15 days notice.

Q: Who can be included on a family membership?

A: Family and Single Parent Family Memberships cover one or two adults and their children aged 0-17 or students up to the age of 23 enrolled in college, living in the same household.  Senior Family Memberships are also available if you are 65 or older.

Q: What payment options are available?

A: Memberships may be paid by credit card for a monthly or annual charge or through a monthly bank draft (3% cash discount) Should you decide to terminate, be sure to let us know  least 15 days in advance. Termination forms are available online or at the Member Services Desk.  A

Q: How can I apply for financial assistance?

A: The YMCA strives to serve everyone in our community regardless of economic circumstances. Financial aid applications for YMCA programs and membership may be obtained at the Member Services Desk or on our website. The application process is confidential and requires proof of financial need. This assistance is made possible by donor contributions to the Y’s Annual Campaign. For more information, click here.

Q: Can I get a membership refund?

A: Membership dues are not refundable. (You may terminate your membership – with 15 days written notice). Program fees may be refunded, less a $15 processing fee.  No refunds are available after the first week of class.

Q: Do you offer childcare while I exercise?

A: Child Watch, located at the Y Studios,  gives parents the opportunity to participate in Y programs, classes and activities with the peace of mind that their children, aged 3 months to 12 years are being cared for in a safe, nurturing and loving environment. Tot Drop for members who wish to leave the Y for up to 3 hours.

Do you offer daycare?   We offer the following childcare options:

  • Early Learning Center: for ages 18 mos – 5 years old.  Full day licensed child care.
  • Nursery School in Mamaroneck for ages 2-5, morning or afternoon. 3-5 days a week. 
  • Pre-School Enrichment program – for ages 3-5 – morning or afternoon, 1-3 days a week.  
  • After School Adventures: After school program (transportation provided from area schools). 
  • Fun Club and Vacation Clubs: Childcare during school holidays.
  • Childwatch –for children age 3 months – 12 years when parent/guardian is using the Rye Y facility. (will reopen in Spring 2022)
  • Tot Drop – for members who wish to go offsite (up to 3 hours)

Q: Do you have WiFi?

A: Yes. We are equipped with WiFi throughout our facility. Our service is complimentary. Please ask for the password at the Member Services Desk.

Q: What do I need to bring when I come to the Y?

A: If you plan to exercise, bring a towel, a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. Most of our lockers are keyless, but if you are using a locker in the Universal Locker Room or Boys and Girls Locker Room, please bring a lock. Locker rentals are also available for a yearly fee. We strongly recommend that you secure personal belongs. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Q: Can anyone use the Wellness Center or do strength training?

A: The Wellness Center is available to members age 15 and up. Members who are 14 years old may be admitted with a Teen Fitness Passport Card. (see next question)

Q: What is a Teen Fitness Passport?

A: The Teen Fitness Passport allows teens age 14-16, to use the Wellness Center on their own Sunday through Saturday, 3-5pm or at anytime with an accompanying adult and participate in Group exercise classes designated 16 and up.

Teens must complete one of the following to receive a Passport:
-Teen Fitness Camps: Summer Teen Fitness Camp (any 1 week session qualifies for Passport Card) or the Teen Vacation Week clinics.
-Personal Training Passport Program (Three 45 minute sessions)
-Group Teen Passports Program (3-5 teens – Three 45 minute sessions)

Q: Do you have any exercise classes for teens?

A: Please check our current schedules for classes just for teens.  Group Exercise classes are open to ages 14+

Q: What’s the best way for me to get started?

 A: When you join the Rye Y, you are eligible for a Facility Orientation in our Fitness Center where we’ll show you how to use our equipment and help you get started. We also offer orientations for Group Wellness and Aquatics programs as well as free 15 minute swim assessments.

Q: Can I bring my own trainer with me to the Y?

A: No, but a variety of personal training packages are available at the Rye Y for different abilities and workout needs. Our certified personal trainers can design an exercise program to suit your individual needs.

Q: Can I “try the Y” or visit the Y for just one day?

A: Our usual policy is that non-members may purchase a day guest pass up to 6 times a year. Adults and Seniors: $20; Youth (17 years and younger): $5. Adults must provide a photo I.D. Guest fees can be applied to membership fees, except college and youth memberships. 

Q: Can I use every YMCA with my membership?

You may use any Y that participates in Nationwide Membership.

Q: I belong to another Y but would like to use this one. Can I visit whenever I’d like?

If you are part of a Y that participates in Nationwide Membership, you may visit our Y as part of the program.

Q : What are the temperatures of the pools?

A: The Pa Cope is 85-87 degrees and the Brookside Pool is 80-82 degrees.

Q:  What are the fees for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program?

A: The LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, for adult cancer survivors, is free.  

Q:  What is the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program?
