Rye Y Wave Ryeders Make A Big Splash at New York State Championships

After a stellar 2nd place finish at the Westchester Fairfield League Championships, the Rye Y Swim Team continued their momentum with a standout performance at the New York State YMCA Swimming Championships, held March 21-23 in Rochester, NY. With 61 swimmers qualifying for the state meet, the team made a powerful impact on and off the blocks.
Among the many highlights:
• Niamh Armstrong was crowned 13–14 Girls State Champion.
• Leo Ramirez dominated the 7–8 division as a 2X Individual State Champion.
• 8 & Under Boys Medley Relay Team — Lyndon Dickerson, Owen Flahive, Leo Ramirez, and Ben Rubin — captured a State Championship title.

The team celebrated an impressive 2nd place finish in the 8 & Under Division. Overall, the team placed 7th, with the girls earning 4th and the boys placing 7th. Beyond podium finishes, swimmers achieved numerous finalist placements and personal best times, reflecting the strength and depth of the entire program.
“Our coaching staff could not be prouder,” said Coach Kate Tiedemann. “The sportsmanship, teamwork, and spirit shown this weekend were everything we hope to see in our swimmers. From cheering in the stands to supporting each other on deck, the camaraderie was unbelievable.”
A heartfelt recognition goes to the team’s graduating seniors — Megan Tiedemann, Brendan Palmer, Chris Miklitsch, and Jeanne Barry — for their leadership and commitment to the team. Megan Tiedemann was awarded the NYS YMCA Senior Scholar Swimmer Award and Scholarship, celebrating her achievements in both academics and athletics.
This championship weekend was a true reflection of YMCA values: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
