RYE Y STORY PROJECT: JENN

I moved to Rye 21 years ago. I always had a passion for leading group exercise and since the Rye Y was so close, I applied to teach here. I taught group exercise in the old gym and then started personal training. In 1998 a group of us launched the spin program here and all got certified. So I’ve been teaching indoor cycling here since the beginning!

I brought my daughter Sarah to Childwatch with Gina and Lily when she was three months old. The spin room was across from Childwatch – where the Men’s Locker Room is now. Sarah took swimming, gymnastics and went to summer camp and my son Andrew participated in swimming and camp. Sarah is in college now and Andrew is in high school!

I didn’t work out regularly until I was 19. I discovered that I really enjoyed it so I pursued teaching. I wanted to share my passion with others. Now I work at the Milton School full time so I just teach one indoor cycling class a week.

I appreciate the sense of community here and the camaraderie. I feel a sense of achievement when I help members reach their fitness goals. I like the energy and commitment members bring to class. They appreciate my effort and say thank you. It makes me feel good, like I’ve impacted them.
