RYE Y STORY PROJECT: GREG W.

16-GregWilsonI moved to Rye in 2000 from New York City, and the first thing I looked for was a gym so I could continue to work out. The Y was an obvious choice for my family and me.

When our family joined we had one son and one on the way. We liked the Mommy and Me class in the pool and enjoyed family swims in the pool, family gym time and special events like Halloween parties. My kids were enrolled in summer camp and karate. Child Watch was called Young Care then and Gina still remembers my sons and loves seeing them. They are in high school now and come here sometimes to work out. My 14-year-old hasn’t been to the ExerZone yet but I think he’ll like it.

Running in the Rye Derby every year is a tradition for me. Two years ago, I was fortunate to meet Eamonn Coghlin, who is the co-founder of the Derby.

I am part of the early morning group at the Y. We arrive at 5:30 a.m. and there is always a line of us outside the front door – swimmers, spinners and Fitness Center people. The morning staff – Fred, the lifeguards, Jesús, the Fitness Center staff –are always ready for us. I work out as many days as I can – at least five if possible. I always feel at ease here. I attribute the Y to my success at training and staying fit.
