Rye Y Story Project: MaryEllen

MaryEllenDI moved from New York City to Rye with my husband and children in 2002. This move gave us a great opportunity to grow and change. Ever since we moved here, the Rye Y has been a huge part of our family and day to day lives. We initially came to the Rye Y because we needed a place to go and a place for our children to grow and interact with others and try new activities. I was also a working mother and needed babysitting which the Rye Y offered. I remember taking many ‘Mommy & Me’ music classes with my twin boys and dropping them off for swimming and art classes which they loved. Now that they are older, they enjoy spending time together working out and using the basketball court. My husband and I love to spin and use the Wainwright House for pilates and yoga.

Throughout the past 12 years, we have witnessed the Y evolve as well as our family. My husband has been very active in the Y throughout these years. He used to be a member on the board. He supported the Y in many different ways, and has been around for the many positive changes the Y has experienced as a whole.

What I truly love about the Y is that it not only services Rye but other communities as well, such as Port Chester and Mamaroneck. The Y supports various charitable causes and organizations. The Y helps bring communities together and offers a lot of programs that cater to many different populations. The staff is very friendly and whenever you walk through the doors it feels very welcoming. Being a part of the Rye Y has truly been a great experience for me and my entire family.
