Health and wellness have always been an integral part of my life, and so after relocating from the Bronx to Harrison 4 years ago, my first intent was to find a gym to cater to my needs and that of my 86-year-old mom. We began to visit a number of health facilities and although their programs were good and interesting, our visit to the Rye Y was extraordinary. My mom immediately felt at home and encouraged me to join. Not that I needed any encouragement!
My mom had been a longtime member of a gym in her hometown in Florida; however, that gym was void of social activities and connections. She was pleasantly surprised at the comparison and the level of commitment by the Rye Y staff. The friendly, inviting, family oriented, all-encompassing atmosphere drew us in! From the minute we entered the doors, we were greeted by an amazing staff that made us feel absolutely welcomed. We were immediately hooked!
After touring the facility, it was evident that the Rye Y was the right place for us. We knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the lifestyle change we were seeking could be accomplished in this place. Everything we needed was right here and it began with the staff! The Rye Y is all about joy and love. Two ingredients necessary to build relationships and so we were drawn in, in a very good way.
My mom and I love being here! The workout sessions are wonderful, the trainers fantastic, encouraging and dedicated friends and most importantly, the friends we have made have enriched our lives.
My goal over this past year was to focus more intentionally on my mental, emotional and physical health. To that end, in just one year with the help of trainers and the staff, this past year I lost 45 Ibs. I now feel strong, not only physically, but also emotionally, and so does my mom. She looks forward to coming to the pool every Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes she visits the fitness center. We both have reached our goals and now I will set a goal to become much stronger!
