Rye Y Story Project: Beth

Beth-MMy parents moved here when I was about 3 months old. My siblings and I went to the camp here for many years beginning in 1982. Back then, the building was old. I remember signing in at the old house. I joined the fitness center in high school in order to remain fit, because at that time, I was an athlete. I now have children so the entire family uses the facility. We are here just about every day.

I bring my children to many of the kid programs and I enjoy participating in yoga. I really enjoy going to the Wainwright House. It is a phenomenal and wonderful place! What a great additional benefit! It is peaceful and beautiful there.

My husband likes to swim on Saturday mornings so I bring our kids to babysitting. I feel like the childcare workers are not only team members, but also family members of ours. My oldest has been going to the babysitting department for the last 4 years which has been great, because then I get all my errands done kid-free. My children feel safe here, just like I felt at the YMCA when I was a young kid. Since I don’t have a babysitter, I bring my kids to the Rye Y; therefore I believe that I have achieved my goal in regards to finding a safe haven for my children. The environment is amazing!
