community-healthLIVESTRONG at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12-week small group program designed to help cancer survivors regain their total health.

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based, one-year small group program for adults who are overweight and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, or have been diagnosed with prediabetes. Since 2011, over 170 individuals have enrolled in the program, many of them finding it “life-changing.”

In addition to the classes offered at the Rye Y, we have forged a strong partnership with Open Door Family Medical Centers. Through this joint effort, we have trained bilingual lifestyle coaches and are now offering Spanish-language classes at Open Door’s facilities in Port Chester and Ossining.
