Social Responsibility

Providing support and inspiring action in our communities

social-responsibility

For 106 years, the Rye Y has been a hub of community life and a catalyst for positive change. Every day, our mission takes us outside the walls of the Y, into schools, senior centers, town halls, local businesses and houses of worship. We support water and pedestrian safety, substance use prevention for teens, and school wellness programs. We offer members of all ages the opportunity to make a difference through community service. We bring hope to cancer survivors and help at-risk adults face chronic disease head-on.

We do all this and so much more while keeping a powerful promise: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay. From the partnerships that foster strong communities to the small group programs that promote health and well-being, the spirit of social responsibility infuses every aspect of our work.

 Togetherhood

Togetherhood is a national Y initiative that involves members of all ages in projects that benefit the communities we serve…and beyond. For more information about Togetherhood, click here.

 Opening Our Pools

The Rye Y opens our two pools to the community for special programs and activities. These include twice-weekly free swim time for members of the Rye Association for the Handicapped (a decades-long partnership) and free Sunday morning recreational swim for children with special needs and their families.

Safety Around Water

The Rye Y offers a free Safety Around Water Program as part of our drowning prevention efforts. The 4-session course teaches children water safety and basic swimming skills that help reduce the risk of drowning and builds confidence in and around water.

Serving Active Older Adults

In addition to classes and activities for our senior members, the Rye Y offers free programs for active older adults in our community. These include Open Swim at the Y and fitness classes at Wainwright House. For information about classes and activities for seniors, click here.

 Blood Drives

Twice a year, the Rye Y hosts a blood drive for the American Red Cross, giving community members the chance to meet a critical need.

Y Cares Financial Assistance Program

The Y Cares program allows the Rye YMCA to keep a powerful promise to the communities we serve: no-one will be turned away from Y programs and services because they can’t pay. The Y Cares program is made possible through the generosity of individual donors, foundations and local businesses. For more information about Y Cares click here. To donate, click here.
