RYE, NY [April 10, 2015]The Rye Y is celebrating the 27th anniversary of its annual Rye Derby along with Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, April 27. The day will kick off with a 5K race and a 5 mile race, both starting at 10:15 am. A 1 mile family fun run/walk starts at 12:15 pm.

Several world class athletes as well as local runners are expected to participate in the races. Medals are given to championship race winners in their age groups and there is a cash purse for the top 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the 5 mile race.

A morning of active fun and festivities is planned at the Rye Y for Healthy Kids Day. Starting at 10:30 am, families are invited to gather at the Rye Y for active games, live music and a BBQ, culminating in the family fun run.

Race and Fun Run participants are encouraged to register in advance by visiting www.ryeymca.org or stopping by Rye YMCA Member Services at 21 Locust Avenue in Rye.  The first 600 registered runners will receive free t-shirts.  The fee for the 5 mile and 5K race is $25 or $30 the day of the race. The fun run/walk fee is $20. Race day registration starts at 8 am. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Margaret Mead at 967-6363, ext. 403.

The proceeds from the Rye Derby and other fundraising events replenish our Y Cares Fund…and give hope to those who need it most. The Rye Y has made a powerful promise to our community: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay. In 2014 alone, we awarded over $560,000 in financial assistance to our neighbors in Rye, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Harrison and beyond.
