RYE, NY (April 27, 2015) Hundreds of runners, families and volunteers gathered at the Rye Y on April 26 for the 27th Anniversary of the Rye Derby and for Healthy Kids Day. The blue skies, sunshine and spring temperatures were ideal for the races and the active family festivities at the Y.
Runners followed either a 5 Mile a 5K route. The winner of the 5 mile race was Harburt Okuti, age 29 (25:56) Harburt won easily in spite of starting the race a few minutes late because of a conflict with an earlier race in NYC. The top female runner and overall second place winner was Salome Kosgh, age 35. (28:52) The top male Rye runner was Malcolm Gray (30:03) and the top female runner from Rye was Laura Kelleher (41:18). The winner of the 5K race for the 2nd year in a row, was Rye resident Jonah Gorevic, age 11 (17:58) who beat his own time last year of 18.33. Also for the 2nd year, the top female 5K runner was Natalie Weiner, age 13. (21:04) Visit www.ryeymca.org to view complete results.

The streets of Rye overflowed in the afternoon with enthusiastic kids and families participating in the family fun run/walk.
“We are grateful to all the community members – sponsors and volunteers who made this day possible,” said Sally Wright, Rye Y Director of Development. Proceeds will help support the Rye Y financial assistance program, outreach and teen programming.
