Award winners Frances DeThomas, Courtney Bennett & Barbara Brunner
The Rye Y celebrated three outstanding volunteers and raised funds for its Y Care Financial Assistance Program at its annual benefit on Saturday, June 3. The three honorees included former board members Courtney Bennett and Frances DeThomas (Gold Spirit Award) as well as Barbara Brunner (Community Service Award).
Held at Harrison Meadows Country Club, the event featured a live auction led by Christie’s auctioneer Joey Quigley and entertainment by Eric Dittelman, a finalist on the hit TV show America’s Got Talent, who “mystified and amazed” the crowd with apparent mindreading skills.
Through Y Cares, the Rye Y provides camp, child care, membership and program subsidies, ensuring that everyone can experience all the Y has to offer regardless of their ability to pay. Y Cares also supports programs that are offered free of charge to the community, including LIVESTRONG at the YMCA for cancer survivors and Safety Around Water, a drowning prevention initiative for young children. Everyone present agreed that it was a wonderful evening for a great cause!
