Free Screenings and Health Information Offered at Annual Mamaroneck Health Fair

Despite the threat of thunderstorms and a weather-related change of venue, the 5th Annual Access to Care Health Fair drew nearly 130 Mamaroneck residents who took advantage of free health screenings and information.

Originally planned as an outdoor event, the August 11th Health Fair was moved to the Community Resource Center (CRC) due to an ominous forecast. The mood indoors however, was festive, as residents, many with young children in tow, had their blood pressure checked, were screened for pre-diabetes, learned about nutrition and collected handouts ranging from stress balls to hand sanitizer.

Across CRC’s courtyard, children colored and received glittery tattoos while munching on healthy snacks and listening to a D.J. spin music. Each family received one free backpack filled with school supplies, courtesy of Family Services of Westchester and the Mamaroneck Rotary Club.

Participants were also directed to Open Door Family Medical Centers’ facility two blocks away for additional free screenings, including dental and vision testing. In all, over 400 preventive care screenings were conducted in four hours.

The Fair was organized by the Rye YMCA, Open Door Family Medical Centers, the Community Resource Center and other community partners. Major sponsors included: the Rye YMCA, Community Resource Center, Open Door Family Medical Centers, Montefiore/New Rochelle, Family Services of Westchester and Greenwich Hospital.
