Rye Y Joins Bread of Life in Fighting Hunger
The Rye Y is pleased to support Bread of Life in fighting hunger and food insecurity throughout Westchester County by placing a food collection bin in our lobby. Y members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items any time you come to the Y. The collection bin will placed in the lobby on Monday, October 5 and will remain there through at least the end of the year.
Bread of Life provides food, other essentials and hope to over 10,000 of the most vulnerable members of our community weekly. The organization rescues excess food that would be discarded as waste from over 18 locations and delivers it free of charge to 24 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout our area. Bread of Life also distributes canned goods, fresh produce, meat, poultry and dairy items to individuals at its own on-site food pantry in Rye. They currently feed over 800 people on each pantry day.
A food drive has been a summer tradition at the Y since 2015, with the Rye Y’s Togetherhood community service committee partnering with summer camp staff and childcare families to restock Bread of Life’s shelves. We are happy to give Y members an opportunity to make a difference on an ongoing basis.
